The Forest

The Forest

The sun sets soft on lake’s still edge,

Where towering pines in silence pledge.

Their heady scent, earthbound and deep,

As roots in ancient stillness keep.

The water ripples, silver kissed,

As evening’s breath begins to twist.

Ethereal mist begins to rise,

While crescent moon climbs darkening skies.

The geese descend, their wings a song,

A soothing beat, where they belong.

Their calls, a hymn of dusk’s embrace,

As shadows claim the forest’s face.

The stars peek through the cloudy veil,

While whispered winds the trees regale.

Their eerie shadows stretch and play,

Yet hold me close as night takes day.

The air smells sweet with dampened grass,

As lake and banks let whispers pass.

The campfire flickers, soft and low,

And rocks beneath it gently glow.

The scent of water, sand, and pine,

With old wood creaking, holds the time.

A tethered canoe by fire’s light,

Whispers of past days, pure and bright.

A simple tent, its lantern warm,

Invites me in from nature’s form.

The fire hums its soft, sweet song,

A place I’ve known and where I belong.

Woodsmoke wraps me like a sigh,

As crackling flames let worries die.

The trees around me sway and creak,

The night begins its ancient speak.

And as I sit, the memories wake,

Of summers spent by forest lake.

Laughter, song, and dances past,

All brought to firelight at last.

Now autumn’s breath begins to creep,

A time of peace that runs so deep.

I close my eyes, release the day,

And in my dreams, I drift away.

Surrounded by love’s gentle glow,

By spirits of those I used to know.

Alone, but held by all I see,

In this quiet night, I’m truly free.
